Visiting Nkosi's Haven Orphanage was one of the best parts of my trip. Nkosi's Haven was named after Nkosi Johnson. Nkosi Johnson was an AIDS activist who passed away in 2001 due to the disease. All he dreamt of was having a facility to help facilitate care without discrimination to young orphans and their mothers along with those diagnosed with AIDS. Nkosi's Haven believes that a mother and child should be given the opportunity to stay together.

Entering into this building and seeing these children opened up my eyes and my heart. These kids were extremely brilliant and they believed that they could do any and everything. They were filled with joy to have so many visitors who were willing to listen, love, play and talk with each of them. I wouldn't trade being able to interact with each of them for nothing in this world. I just wish we had more time.

This is a picture of one of the girls that I immediately formed a connection with. Both of our birthdays are in September and we both love doing hair. She had just completed her cosmetology test and was waiting to hear back from the school.
